Many US airports (maybe all?) do not have a transient area, so EVERYONE must go thru immigration and customs, even if just passing thru. It wasn’t like this before. We recently returned from Hong Kong to LA and were shocked at the chaos and rudeness and general uncleanliness of Los Angelos airport compared to Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur. US looked like a 2nd world country.
