The recent outbreak of bird flu in Vietnam has engulfed four more regions in the Mekong Delta, and the virus has killed around 8,300 birds. According to Reuters, the outbreak of the H5N1 virus was the first in Vietnam since August. The initial eruptions killed around 6,000 newly hatched chickens and ducklings that were not vaccinated against bird flu. However, Vietnamese scientists claimed that they have detected genes of bird flu virus strain H5N1, which will make the production of vaccines easier to curb the disease. But tourism industry observers fear that tourists are still under panic and reluctant to visit Vietnam.
Vietnamese Government admitted that due to the lack of knowledge, virus H5N1 has turned out to be a epidemic in many areas.
Department of Veterinary found in its inspection:
Many local residents killed diseased poultry and threw the corpses into Hiep Hoa canal, which made the epidemic spread more rapidly among poultry breeding farms in Khanh Binh commune and others nearby.
The Vietnamese government, in association with the United Nations, has commenced a media campaign to raise public awareness of bird flu risks and prevention measures in response to recent outbreaks in the southern provinces of Ca Mau and Bac Lieu.
The education campaigns urge farmers to apply safe breeding skills, early detect and timely report outbreaks to local authorities that they can take instant steps.
