passport-canand-a_62 Canadian government has urged U.S. to adopt soft approach while implementing the new passport requirements for land travelers. Michael Wilson, Canadian ambassador to United States, expressed these concerns, while speaking at a luncheon in Toronto.
He warned Washington against rash implementation of law, stating that it could have a negative impact on their centuries’ old bi-lateral relations. If the new regulations are not put into practice carefully, they will not only force to reassess the foundations of NAFTA- the backbone of our economic integration with America, but 140 years of friendship.
Wilson said:

Canada has seen a gradual thickening of the border over the past four years - initiatives that jeopardize our long-standing commercial and people-to-people connections.

Meanwhile, starting today, the nationals of the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Bermuda are required to present passport while they enter into America when arriving by air from any part of the Western Hemisphere.
There are reports in media that passports offices of respective nations have observed dramatic increase in the number of people applying for passports. Mexican nationals had formed long queues at their consulates in the U.S.
