Terrorism has now become a menace to the Muslim countries and now they are facing isolation with rest of the world. As a result, tourism industry has witnessed a great downfall because tourists are free to shun destinations associated with risk. Islamic counties are now contemplating to initiate a global campaign to boost tourism and project them as safest place.
OIC (Organization of Islamic conferences) has convened a meeting on 15th of September. The member states are now considering a proposal by Malaysia to make 2010 Travel the World of Islam Year, and the proposal has been well received and could help Muslim countries significantly increase their tourism arrivals, Malaysian Tourism Minister Tengku Adnan said.
OIC members are currently covering 5 present tourism market of the world. 58 members of OIC are also interacting with each other so that visa formalities can be made easier among them. Under the second phase their main target would be to encourage more and more tourists to visit Muslim countries.
Visit OIC Year will also enable people to travel to Islamic countries to know first hand that Islam is not about terrorism
