Enthused by the success of the Palace on Wheels, the Rajasthan government plans to boost “train tourism” by introducing two new luxury trains. State tourism secretary ‘Vinod Zutshi’ stated that ‘In the wake of tourists overbooking for the Palace on Wheels and the ever increasing demand for it, the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation plans to launch Palace on Wheels-II by 2007 and the Royal Luxury Train (RLT) by 2008 with an investment of Rs 90 crore,” The fare for Palace on Wheels-II will be 20-25 per cent higher than the 500 dollars per person per night charged on the Palace on Wheels, while the fare for the RLT willnt be 1,000 dollars per person per night. The trains will have Internet cafes and rejuvenation centres and offer world-class amenities and cuisine. Train tourism will get a further boost in the golden triangle travel circuit of India.
