In the view of Fijian army’s coup, New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade issued fresh guidelines for its countrymen, saying Fiji is at high risk and any spark can flare it.

Thus, it is advised to visitors to avoid non-essential travel there. MFAT warns that New Zealanders should keep themselves away from the army patrolling areas, any demonstrations or mass gatherings because such places are suspected under high risk.

Notably, Australian government too issued similar guidelines for its nationals a month back. The governments of other nations are also closely monitoring the Fiji’s condition.

Fiji is amongst the richest nations in the South Pacific, attracting up to 400,000 tourists a year to resorts built on idyllic beaches. It is the forth time, in the recent 20 years, that this South Pacific Island nation is facing a military coup.

As I’ve also mentioned earlier that tourism has a large share in Fiji’s economy, which is incessantly being victimized by political instability of the country. Such self-created misfortune has earned bad name for this beautiful nation among international tourism industry. Issues can be resolved amicably but constant manhandling of army with an elected government is very sad indeed. The army needs to realize that any action taken by them brings calamity to the whole nation.
