Citizens of Peru are well aware of the international significance of world’s new seven wonders that are competing to conquer the first position. It is quite difficult to prognosticate that which sites would find themselves on the stage of winners. However, all the countries are trying their level best to carry the bell and Peru is also not untouched by this competition. That is the reason why Peru’s tourism ministry is asking their citizens and foreign tourists to vote for the ancient Inca site of Machu Picchu.
Maria Seminario, general manager of the tourism promotion agency PromPeru, said:
Machu Picchu was in the top seven out of 21 finalists before the July 7 announcement of the winners in Lisbon by the New7Wonders Foundation. Now we need to consolidate that. Being No. 1 would be ideal.
Machu Picchu tourists get leaflets on how to cast a vote, either via the Internet or by phone. From the next week onwards, advertisement campaigns would telecast on TV channels and on some airlines operating in Peru.
As per the sources, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Taj Mahal in India and St. Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow are other big contenders for the first place.
Built in 1460s, the Machu Picchu is magnificent site that boasts unmatched unique architecture. Its location in the midst of the Andes Mountains in modern Peru makes it enigmatic ancient sites in the world.
