In a landmark decision, the Himachal Pradesh High court has banned the incessant haphazard construction in Kasuali area in order to preserve the ecological balance in the region. But it has come after the ceaseless efforts of petitioner Mr. Baljit Malik, who is an active environmentalist residing at Kasauli.
What about the other areas of Himachal Pradesh which are being frequently victimized by realtors in the name of tourism development. The expansion of industrialization and inception of hydel projects including recently sanctioned cement plants in the state are making the situation even more worse. The actual gruesome picture of environment degradation in Himachal Pradesh is yet to come.
If the damage of ecology will not be restored than certainly we would not get another chance to set things right. The sooner we will take initiative the better it would be for our own survival.
By now, the absence of separate environment policy shows the ignorance of state’s successive governments. The area is so wide to monitor and only a separate wing for environment policy would serve the purpose.
The responsibility do not end by merely keeping vigilance on activities pertaining to ecological lost. But the scientific analysis and remedial measures need to be taken that involves a deliberate study and documentation of ground realities.
