More than 16 months have been passed when suicide attacks rocked the most celebrated resort island Bali, leaving 20 people dead, but still the region is struggling to restore its derailed tourism industry. With the downfall of 9 percent the tourist arrivals has dropped to 1.33 million in 2006, officials statistics said. While the gross number of oversees travelers in Indonesia plummeted to 2.61 percent to 4.87 million in 2006 from the previous year.
These attacks occurred three years after militant outfits bombed two Bali nightclubs, killing 202 people, and mostly foreign holidaymakers. However, there was no terrorist attack in the previous year but the nation didn’t get rid of worries as major volcanic eruption, an earthquake and tsunami that killed thousands of people. Worsening the miseries bird flu virus has caused the highest number of deaths due to this epidemic.
It is worth noticing that UN has stated in its report that nearly 200 islands would be submerged in the ocean due to climate changes resulting in the increase of sea level.
Indonesia, an archipelago of some 17,000 islands, is largely dependent upon tourism. If the measure were not taken immediately then current situations in the country could spell doom.
